Additional notes:
Original etching was executed in the 1600\'s. This late impression after the original is well more than 130 years old. Published circa 1880. This sale has been started at a minimum price. You will not find this same etching anywhere else for anything close to the starting offer. We have found these same etchings (although many that we found were modern day reprints and not prints from the 1800\'s like we are selling - Most of the modern versions are on a heavy cream colored wove paper and although the quality is nice, the plates have been reworked to the point that the image has lost the \"look and feel\" of the original Rembrandt etching) on gallery websites for obscene asking prices.Extra Information:
Christ standing in a rocky landscape preaching to a crowd of people, many sick; while gesturing with his right hand towards a baby which a woman in a turban holds up to Him at left; an old woman with her hands lifted in prayer at right, behind a sick person who lies leaning against her, another sick person in a makeshift wheeled trolley behind them.
Artist Biography:
Rembrandt van Rijn was a Dutch Baroque painter and printmaker, one of the greatest storytellers in the history of art, possessing an exceptional ability to render people in their various moods and dramatic guises. Rembrandt is also known as a painter of light and shade and as an artist who favored an uncompromising realism that would lead some critics to claim that he preferredugliness to beauty.
