This is a similar pair of 23 cm. single reeded plates. Both plates have touches of \"THE BEST PEWTER\" over a crowned rose stamped on the outer base, and one of the plates has an additional touch of \"THE BEST PEWTER\" over a double headed eagle and \"W.P.\"Cotterell has recorded these touches as O.P. 5871 in his book \"Old Pewter\", and dates them from 1700 to 1740. The double headed eagle appears in the touches of several Bristol pewterers. The \"W.P.\" is probably the initials of the pewterer. That is all I can surmise.Over to you researchers. There are very few examples of this pewterer\'s work left in circulation. There are no repairs to these plates and they are in reasonable condition for their age.
