Italy WWII 1945 RSI Castiglione D\'Intelvi Local Issues with and without Overprint Complete Sets VF MNH!
ITEM:
Background: In 1945 Castiglione D\'Intelvi was situated within the Italian Social Republic (RSI)and in order to meet the needs of the local postal service 19 different stamps for standard postage were produced by Decree of the Municipal Commissioner between February 7 and April 10, 1945. The first two stamps offered in this lot were printed with a 50c denomination in grayish green and a 1L denomination in red (Feb. 9, 1945). The second set offered here were initially printed with the colours reversed which apparently caused much confusion. As a result 45 000 of 50 000 sets produced with the colours reversed were then overprinted to reflect the denominations of the original printing (April 10, 1945).
Reference: These are listed in the 2008 Sassone specialized catalogue Volume 2 as Emissioni Locali Castiglione D\'Intelvi #s 14-15 and 18-19 with a combined value of 8€ or approximately $9.60.
Condition: Very-fine overall condition, with mixed centering, fresh appearance and full original never-hinged gum. Otherwise free of faults.
