J. Robert Oppenheimer autographs: take a chance?:
$70.00

Here\'s the story (it\'s long). Years ago I purchased a collection of science memorabilia - it was all \"right as rain\" from the Trinitite to the Japanese photos. One of the items was a framed homage to his (and mine) hero: J. Robert Oppenheimer. I had seen his scientific autograph many times: it was as he was steady and unvarying (you could stack 10 on top of each other and it would look like one - and he never to my knowledge used an autopen). \"No question\" in my mind these were real; but, the autograph dealer who was interested in them would only buy them if they were accompanied by COAs from a West-Coast authenticator. OK - this is going to cost about $130. After a call telling me they rec\'d them and would I like them \'graded\' and \'encased\', I told them \'no\' as the dealer hadn\'t said he wanted them that way, just with the COAs. After an interminable amount of time I rec\'d them back, both with identical letters saying they were not authentic. Floored! The exact same 8 criteria were listed, one of which \"Lacks spontaneity, rhythm, conviction and/or movement\" is so off-the-mark I wondered if they were looking at the same autographs I had sent. so there\'s the story. Do I trust my own personal experience or some young guy with an Argentine accent (no offense to Argentinians); or, who do you trust. You get the two autographs (he rarely signed with the \"J\" except cheques and similar Official documents where he didn\'t know the authority well) as well as the unsigned (by the \'authenticator\') letters of inauthenticity. Why anyone would \'forge\' his signatures so many years ago is beyond me; it is quite unique and you wouldn\'t gain much (unlike Einstein\'s). Winner pays $1 postage in the USA.
