Tonight I am listing a table-full of my collection of Japanese antiques and collectibles. All porcelain ceramics, they include Imari, Satsuma and some lovely pieces of blue and white porcelain. Please see the last photos for the entire array of items, the photos also give a good visual reference for size.
Up first is a major piece - a dramatic and well hand-painted antique Imari plate or charger. 15 and 1/2 inches in diameter and 1 and 1/2 inches deep, it has all the features of a fine piece of Imari - the reds, blues, greens and golds on a white background, floral and geometric motifs, and additional embellishment on the reverse side. The center circle holds a magnificent pheonix bird (ho-o in Japanese). The design is well-balanced and the painting more skillful than some pieces of Imari. No cracks or chips, but a number of small glaze bubbles or pops from firing on the front. Great for any collection of Japanese or Asian decor.
