Hand written on original 1765 paper with the 1765 Stamp Act Watermark.
In March of 1765 the Stamp Act was passed and wasto be enacted on November 1st, 1765.
The Stamp Act had required that all colonists purchase watermarked or "stamped"
taxed paper for use in newspapers and legal documents for which the levy was placed.
This was the first internal tax ever imposed on the colonies by Parliament
