Jimmy Doolittle sends a typed letter explaining that he does not know someone but has suggested he talk to someone else who may be able to help.
Typed Letter Signed: \"J. H. Doolittle\", 1p, 8½x11. New York, N.Y., 1946 March 31. On Shell Oil Company stationery. To Mr. H.S.J. Sickel, Philadelphia, PA. In full: \"I am just in receipt of your letter of March 26 asking about Mr. J.R. Doolittle, late of Wisconsin. I did not know Mr. Doolittle but presume that we were in some way distantly related, as apparently all Doolittles are. Dr. Isaac Doolittle, 321-1/2 South Michigan Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, has kept a very accurate check on the Doolittle clan and can probably give you any desired information. With best wishes, I am Very sincerely\". In 1922, Jimmy Doolittle (1896-1993) made the first transcontinental flight in less than 24 hours. In the 1920s and 1930s, he set various speed and flight records. In World War II, Doolittle and 79 other fighter pilots (\"Doolittle\'s Raiders\") bombed Tokyo on April 18, 1942, the first air attack on the Japanese capital. Also hit were targets in Yokohama and other cities, scoring a huge victory for United States morale at a time when Japan\'s position in the Pacific seemed impregnable. Doolittle was promoted to Brigadier General the next day and was later awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for the raid. Staple holes at upper left corner. Fine condition.
