I picked up this extra thickvintage (c. 1950\'s)goban (go board) ata dealer only sale in Japanlast year. I have been buying fine go boards at sale in Japan for over 35 years now and find this board to be a great bargain due to its warm aged patina as well as its thick 7\" ( 17.8 cm) thick center grain of whatI am told is solid Kaya wood. It also has four nicely carved 4 7/8\" woodenlegs (12.4 cm) for a total height of 11 7/8 \" (30.2 cm).

This board has been well played yet well loved, and while it shows some signs of use (a few minor character nicks -see picture 8) (see enlarged pictures). This is a well cured stock of center cut kaya wood is sure to stand the test of time for another century.

It stands flat on the floor and has a level playing surface and the top grid is super clear and sharp. The top measures 17 3/4\" by 16\" (45 x 41 cm) stands nearly 12\" high overall (20.2 cm).Weighing in at a hefty 34pounds.Enjoy the enlarged pictures. A comparable new board would cost over $5,000 in Japan today, yet in many ways I find this one even more attractive due to its years of use character andwarm aged patina as well as its time proven, well cured stock.

There is some writing in Japanese on the bottom of the board (see last picture) which translates to: Given from Fukusuke Akiyama as a gift on Showa 42nd year (1967) . It was probably many years old already at this time.

Please note: thegoishi (stones and bowls) seen in the first picture are not included but are being soldin a current listing on sailerking. Don\'t miss them as they are solid shell and stone and over 100 years old.
