JPL Jean Pouyat Limoges Plate Hand Painted Pink Blue Flowers 1892 Raised Gold JPL Jean Pouyat Limoges Plate Hand Painted Pink Blue Flowers 1892 Raised Gold Elegant Decorative 8 3/4\" PLATE from JPL (Jean Pouyat) Limoges, France, PINK & BLUE w/Green Leaves outlined in RAISED GOLD, Scalloped & Embossed Mold w/GOLD on Rim, marked w/Patent Date May 15th 1892

DESCRIPTION:  This plate was designed in a very classic pattern with pink & blue flower sprays having raised gold paint to enhance the beauty of the flowers.  The mold used is extensively embossed & scalloped on the rim with lots of gold highlighting.  On the blue flowers, there are both raised gold and raised blue paint.  The overall quality of the design is quite professional.  The gold trim on the rim is very rich looking and accents the embossing & scalloping.  The artist was very talented. CONDITION:  While this set is classified as used, its condition is superb.  We can find no defects or damage.  There is slight wear to the raised gold on the flowers in the center of the plate.  (This is really hard to tell whether this is wear or just the way the artist applied the gold.)  There are no chips, nicks, cracks, other rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines.  Overall, the gold trim is solid & glossy.  See the photos.

DIMENSIONS:  The plate has a diameter of 8 3/4\" and a height of 7/8\". HISTORY/MARKS:  The Pouyat family wasone of the oldest French names associated with the porcelain in the Limogesregion dating all the way back to the 1700’s. Jean Pouyat began a company in 1842 at Limoges and the business wascarried on by his sons after his death in 1849. About 1883, the company became known as La Ceramique.  The now famous JPL backstamps were usedbeginning in 1851 and the specific one that is on this plate is called mark #5A (Mary Frank Gaston in Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rdedition) which was patented May15th 1892.
