Archival mat has 6-1/4\" x 9-1/8\" opening revealing highly detailed ink and watercolor painting based on the cover to the first Donald Duck comic book with all original material Dell Four Color # 9 Oct. 1942. Humorous scene has Donald\'s sailor hat flying up in the air as he happily views parrot Yellow Beak dressed as a pirate smiling on top of an open treasure chest. Bags of gold coins litter the shoreline. Signed in ink \"Jack Hannah\" at lower right. Bright and Excellent ! Comes with corresponding handwritten signed letter noting he and Carl Barks each drew 29 pages of the comic; Jack Hannah signed commission check from me for this original dated Nov. 24, 1990; and Gladstone Giant Comic Album Special 1 signed \"Jack Hannah\" on blank inside front cover. Letter, check and book are all Excellent. Mr. Hannah (1913-1994) became a Disney animator in 1937. He directed 94 shorts beginning with \"Donald\'s Day Off\" in 1944, directed all the early Chip \'n Dale cartoons, and also did 14 \"Walt Disney\'s Anthology\" TV shows. He went on to Walter Lantz Studios (Note: see our other listing) and became assistant director on \"The Woody Woodpecker Show\" in 1957. He co-founded the character animation program at Cal Arts in 1975 with T. Hee, and was honored as a \"Disney Legend\" in 1992. We are also listing a large1929 Walter Lantz original ink and watercolor cartoon promoting a William Boyd movie \"The Leatherneck\".
