Description*Matsumura Keibun (1779~1843) :
A painter of the Shijo school of the Edo latter period. He lived in Kyoto and learned a painting from \"Matsumura Gekkei(1752-1811)\" who was his different older brother of mother. But there was a great differnce in their ages like a parent and child. He set up the residence in Shijo of Kyoto, and worked at the \"Myohoin\". He promoted Shijo school more decorative and an aesthetic tendency while inheriting a style of painting of Gekkei. The picture which he drew adhered to a sketch well, the technique to complete the whole screen with a gentle,beautiful decorative called great popularity. He was good at the sketch of the Japanese way of painting of flowers and bird,and was compared with \"Okamoto Toyohiko (1773-1845)\"belonging to the same school, he came to be called as follows,\"The flowers and birds are Keibun,Landscape painting is Toyohiko\". A reason which Shijo school came to occupy the big position in Japanese painting circles seems that ability of Keibun was superior with Okamoto Toyohiko belonging to the same school.
