Lot of 4 Pairs of Vintage Japanese Kokeshi Dolls ~ Total of 8 Dolls
wooden ~ 5” to 10 3/4”The dolls are solid wood and together they weigh almost 3 pounds.The old man & woman dolls are attached to a wooden plinth. The dolls with the flat hats still have bark. Two of the pairs have inscriptions. Since I do not read Japanese, I have provided photos. The dolls are free of cracks. The old woman doll has paint cracking on the back of her hair. One of the dolls of pair with the black & gray paintings has a natural defect in the wood on the back of the head. The pair with the flat hats have worn bluish paint on the top of one hat, a deteriorating cloth strip on the neck of one doll. One doll of this pair also has a blue-coated wire attached to a twig at the base. I’m not sure what that’s about. The pair with the inscriptions in the middle and colorful landscapes below have rubbing on the paint on the tops of the heads. The dolls come from a smoke free home.
