The famed New York firm founded in 1840 as Tift and Whiting. Became Whiting Mfg Co, in 1866. Examples in major collections, including the Museum of the City of NY.
The pitcher in not often seen slender pear shape.
Centre with elegant anthemion framed oval medallion, inscribed as noted. Flanked by artistically carved water lillies and cala-lily.
The finish work is astounding. And approaches that of Meiji artistry.
Followed by band of scrollng anthemion, acanthus and twin florette, in beaded frame.
The pitcher with helmet shape rim. With unique addition of a flap over the back half toward handle.
Panelled vine form handle, bi-furcated at top. Lower handle in three sections.
