Japanese lacquer makie mirror stand Kyodai Edo/Meiji era Tansu chest:
$999.00

A Japanese lacquer kyodai (mirror stand) that consists of the stand on a two drawer chest. Decorated with gold lacquer techniques on all sides with floral tendrils. Two metal insets with Paulownia Mon adorn the mirror holder as well as the two drawer pulls. The Paulownia Mon has been said to rank second only to the Chrysanthemum. The mon was used by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, conferred by him to successful generals and is associated with branches of the Matsudaira clan among others. Kyodai (mirror stands) were an important part of a wedding trousseau. This Kyodai is most likely late Edo era (pre 1868) but could be from the first years of the Meiji era. Engraved metal terminals adorn scrolled elements and the base of the holder. Height 66 cm or 26\", width, height and length of the chest 27,5 cm or 10.8\". The mirror holder is in relatively good condition considering the age, but there are small losses of lacquer in many places so look carefully at the pictures. Still very decorative! Can be restored. Gilt worn on the metal ornaments. No returns! Note that mirror holder detaches for easier shipping. FREE Shipping Worldwide!
