JK 171 \"Gold Fans\" Vintage Japanese Silk Kimono Fukuro Obi:
$24.00

Today (Friday, December 15, 2017) I am listing 8 lovely vintage Japanese Silk Obi. These are fukuro obi - they are about 13 to 14 inches wide and 13 to 14 feet long. A fukuro obi has a continuous repeating pattern for two thirds of its length on one side, and a solid color silk on the back. When worn, it is folded in half and wrapped around the body, then opened up to the full 14 inches width to make the bow. Because of this, there is often a crease down the middle on the plainer portion of the obi from folding it in half. Most vintage fukuro obi will have some remnants of this crease. Any one of these obi would look great either as a wall hanging, a table runner, or to be worn with one of the kimono I have listed. Please see all of these new obi, and also please look at the other items I have for sale - Japanese kimono, hanhaba obi, Japanese ceramics, and brand-new women\'s clothing.
This is a nice, simple fukuro obi in a light gold with traditional motifs of fans and clouds. The fans hold alternating patterns of chrysanthemums and paulownia blossoms, also very traditional motifs. Chrysanthemums refer to the Royal family, and Paulownia is the wood that most antique Japanese furniture is made of. This would be a nice obi to pair with a busier kimono, or one that needs a big splash of gold. The back side is lined with light gold silk. The obi is in very good shape, no real flaws. It is soft to the touch, but will still make a nice bow. A nice, more neutral obi.
