These are vintage Joann McCracken dolls - a family of father, mother, brother, and sister dolls. I believe these are probably Sculpey or some similar polymer clay instead of porcelain. Joann McCracken\'s book was my first exposure to sculpted dolls. I have since seen many more detailed artist renditions, but I think these still have a primitive folk charm. The dolls do show their age. The parents and brother are signed on their feet JMC with either a \'79 or \'80. Little girl is unsigned. They need restoration work on the faces. They either have paint wear or a stain of some kind on the faces. The man and boy have little hairs stuck to their faces. The little girl has the cleanest complexion.
They can be posed but each varies as to flexibility. Hand are sculpted into a fist position - a very pugnacious family of dolls. The man wears a three piece suit with shirt and tie showing underneath vest and jacket. Woman has a flower print cotton dress - no petticoat but she is wearing bloomers. Little boy is wearing a Victorian suit made of blue felt; his beret needs to be pinned or glue to his head. Little girl wears cotton dress and apron. The apron has staining probably from the glue of the time.
Man is 6 inches tall; woman is 5 3/4 inches tall; boy is 4 1/2 inches tall; girl is 4 inches tall. For the adult collector; not recommended for children.
