John Henry \"Jack\" \"Doc\" Bradley(July 10, 1923 – January 11, 1994) was aUnited States NavycorpsmanduringWorld War II. He partook twice inraising the Flag on Iwo Jima. He helped secure the Flagstaff in the soft ground for the first American Flag raised and helped five Marines raise the second larger replacement American Flag with a longer and heavier Flagstaff on top ofMount Suribachion February 23, 1945. He was the last surviving member of the second Flag-raising.

Joseph Jeremiah McCarthy(August 10, 1911 – June 15, 1996) was amustangofficer in theUnited States Marine Corps Reserve, who served duringWorld War IIand theKorean War. He was also the Superintendent of Ambulances in theChicago Fire Department,[1]however, with respect for his wartime heroics, firefighters continued to address him by his wartime military rank of \"Captain.\"[2]


Charles W. \"Chuck\" Lindberg (June 26, 1920 – June 24, 2007) was an American and a United States Marine corporal during World War II who was part of the combat patrol that climbed Mount Suribachi and raised the first of two U.S. Flags on the summit during the Battle of Iwo Jima on February 23, 1945. He was one of the last surviving members of both of these Flag-raising events
