This photo shows John F. Kennedy Jr. as he greeted invited guests at the HBO premiere (\"Earth to the Moon\") held at Kennedy Space Center in 1998...as a television director, I was invited to this event, along with my stepson Bruce, who is a Sr. VP at HBO & a producer of this series. I met John briefly on the red carpet, along with his beautiful wife. I was actually more excited about the premiere when I was seated inside next to Buzz Aldrin, one of my personal heroes! John came to the podium and gave a rousing speech about the space program and how proud he was that his Dad had helped make theApollo landings on the moon possible.

After the screening, we all dined in a large room where an actual Saturn V Rocket hung from the ceiling above us! It was breathtaking...our table with the HBO execs was next to the head table where John and his wife were sitting...they were a beautiful couple.

After dinner, to our surprise, John got up from his table and came over to us and introduced himself...Istood up and told him how much I like\"GEORGE\" magazine. Instead of just saying \"thanks,\" he asked me,\"what is it you like about the magazine?\"

I told him how Ienjoyed the great mixture of political articles from bothsides of the aisle, etc. I also mentioned that my wife (who was out of town in Chicago that night) worked for his Uncle Bobby when he ran for President in 1968. He appreciated that and ask me to thank her! Of course, I said she will be so disappointedshe couldn\'t be here tonight to meet you.

Imagine my shock when he ask me to \"call her on your cell & I\'ll say hello!\" Well, I calledAdrianne in Chicago and she dropped the phone! She said she couldn\'t talk because \"she was inher pajamas!\" I never heard my wife so nervous in her life. John just laughed and handed back my phone.

As he moved on, Ithought what a terrific young man...he was so nice, personable and genuine...and would probably run for that senate seat in New York state!

Of course, I had no idea that a year later, he and his beautiful wife would die in such a tragic plane crash.

And,the memories of that meetingare nowchoking me up, so I\'m going to stop.

We still miss you terribly, John...it wasan honor to meet you...Godspeed.
