John Treadwell (1745-1823) was the 21st Governorof Connecticut, from 1809 to 1811, after having served eleven years asLieutenant Governor. A Yale graduate, hestudied law and practiced in Farmington, CT.He held various state offices, was elected to the Continental Congress,but did not attend. He was a delegate tothe state convention that ratified the U.S. Constitution, and from 1814-1815 hewas a Connecticut delegate to the Hartford Convention.

This is a one-page partly-printed document of the State ofConnecticut, Hartford, May 12, 1794, an order that the State pay Treadwell asum of money. It is signed by JohnPorter, comptroller, and Andrew Kingsbury, treasurer. Kingsbury served as treasurer of the statefrom 1794 to 1818, and Porter was comptroller from 1793 to 1806. On the verso of the document Treadwell noteshis receipt of the sum and signs. Finecondition.
