This isavery nice replica of the \"Red River\" belt buckle that JohnWayne wore in approximately nine Westerns after the making of the 1948 classicmotion picture, \"Red River\" It isNickel with 18kt Gold plating, and measures 2 1/2\" by 33/4\". It is made for a 1 1/2\" wide belt. It has the famous Red RiverD brand in the center, and the title \"Red River\" in two of thecorners. The year 1946 is in the upper right corner, which is the year themovie was made, and the initials HWH in the lower left.

After theproduction of \"Red River\", the director, Howard Hawks had solidsilver belt buckles made for the cast members.Out of mutual respect andadmiration for each other, Wayne and Hawks exchanged buckles, so Wayne wore thebuckle with Hawks\' initials for the rest of his life.After his death, Wayne\'ssonMichael took his father\'s buckle to a Hollywood silversmith to havecopies made for family members. In Sept, 1981 the buckle was stolen andregrettably has never been recovered.
