A beautiful large signed oil on canvas by Jules Flour depicting a pierrot with a guitar serenading a putti who has climbed a blossom tree. This work is superbly painted with rich colour and beautiful light. The painter has superbly captured the ought in this scene with sparkling colours. A beautiful example of his work and a lovely subject.

Jules Flour studied under Pierre Grivolas at the École des Beaux-Arts in Avignon from 1878, then went to Paris to study under Gérome. He settled first in Montparnasse, but after being appointed to teach at Avignon\'s École des Beaux-Arts in 1906, he worked with the Groupe des Treize (the Thirteen) to revive artistic activity in Avignon and Provence. He exhibited in Paris from 1887, at the Salon des Artistes Français.
In 1900 the city of Avignon commissioned him to undertake the decoration of two ceilings for the Town Hall\'s festival hall. His varied output showed special empathy with the Provençal landscape, of which he gave a realist account, using an understated palette deftly to capture its light.
