Since that time, he has worked and exhibited in a number of media, including film and, more recently, digital animation. Using well-known films, videos, and photographs, Ezawa explores the appropriation and mediation of current events and images.The History of Photography Remixdraws on important art and documentary photographs made throughout the history of the medium. Kota Ezawa\'s work has been widely exhibited throughout the United States and Europe, and is included in such permanent collections as the Israel Museum, Jerusalem; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Kota Ezawa was born in 1969 in Cologne, Germany and currently lives and works in San Francisco, CA. He is associate professor of film and fine arts at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco.Ezawa studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, and was a Master\'s student in the class of Nam June Paik in 1995. He continued his studies at the San Francisco Institute of Art and went on to obtain an MFA at Stanford University in 2003.He has been the subject of solo exhibitions atSITE Santa Fe, NM (2017/2018);Mead Art Museum, Amherst, MA (2017);Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, VA (2015); Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, NY (2013); Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco, CA (2013); Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, OH (2009); Hayward Gallery Project Space, London, England (2007); and Artpace, San Antonio, TX (2006).

Ezawa\'s work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY; Art Institute of Chicago, IL; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, CA; Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, CA; J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, CA; Pier 24 Photography, San Francisco, CA; and Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach, CA; among others.

\'Kota Ezawa\' will be on view at Independent New York, NY, May 9–12, 2024.

Also, an inaugural solo exhibition at the Fraenkel Gallery, San Francisco, CA is planned for the fall of 2024.
