Most of these figural napkin ringsand toothpick holders were sourced in Australia. I have gathered themover the last 2 years from deceased estate sales all around thecountry. Most of the American figural napkin rings were madec1860-1899, and I believe a lot of them found there way to Australia inthe gold-rush period in Australia in the 1870/1890\'s.I havelistedthemnowas they have accumulated over the last 2 years whileI have been engaged in a big supreme court action.
After this it will go back to about 2 new items listed per week. I havesold many many figurals to collectors mainly in the USA.
This is a very rare and lovely American Victorian figuralnapkin ring, with a kate Greenaway girl standing on a square base with4 feet on the coners holding a rifle. The detail all around isextraordinary. The ring is also engraved, and the base is quite ornateand detailed. It is marked as made by Simpson Hall Miller & Co. with thepattern/production/patent number 205.It is shown inthebook\"Figural NapkinRings: Collector\'s Identification and Value Guide\", byGottschalk and Whitson (G&W) on page 220, in plate 541. They valuedthis figural napkin ring in 1996 at $500 USD and up, 18 yearsago. I have been told that this ring soldfor $4000 (yes $4000!) on a few years ago. This napkin ring is in verygood to excellent condition. I have washed it in warm soapy water only. No polishing.It has a varied patina almost all over it. There is no damage, norepairs, no missing parts, no broken bits, no pitting. The silverplatelooks to be in good condition. See photos. It presents as an excellentexample of this item. The only issue is that teh rifle is a lttle bent.It can be easily straighteened by the buyer. I don\'t like to touchthings myself. The base rocks a little and one of the legs need sto be bent.
