King George V, Signed Diplomatic Document. 1926. For Sale
This is actually forthree (3) documents.
One is a diplomatic document, confirming the appointment by Romania of a diplomat to Montreal, dated Nov. 16, 1926,signed by King George V of England. It has the seal. The document is not pristine but is in good condition. It was folded when I found it. (more on that later) It is in a nice frame.
The second document, which supports the authenticity of the first, is the Romanian appointment of the above mentioned diplomat. It is signed by court officials, dated Dec. 30, 1922.I don't read Romanian, so I don't know what it says exactly. There evidently was a mistake in writing the name as there is a crossout. On the back is an addendum which is dated Feb. 5, 1931 which is sugned and has a seal which appears to refer to this. This document was also folded when I found it and it looks like someone trimmed it a bit (to fit a frame?) as one letter is cut off on the name and the right edge is not even. Very little seems to have been cut off.
The third document is an appointment for the same individual, this time from Montenegro. Not sure who exactly signed this one. Maybe Prince Danilo, but I'm not sure. Framed, 12 x 9.5 inches.
The signed George V doc is about 20.5" x 14" framed and the doc takes up the frame. The other is about 14" x 9".
I found these when I was doing some archival work at a private school I used to teach history at. The documents were together but had no mention of who had donated them to the school. Because of that the school let me keep them and a few other documents as thanks for my work and since they were in no way related to the school as far as we could tell.
The documents support each other as to authenticity and the signature by King George V matches nicely with other known exemplars.
BTW, the framing is nice but not spectacular. Feel free to ask questions.
