OLDE ENGLISH WITCHBALL
Popular in 18th Century England Kitras Art Glass
Hand Blown Amethyst Window Ornaments
These are hand blown art glass, crafted by artisans in Canada. Witch Balls were very popular in 18th Centruy England, but their actual origin is thought to be much older. For well over 300 years, hollow glass spheres have been hung in windows to ward off witch spells, evil spirits and ill fortune. Hanging these decorative balls in the window is thought to tantalize evil spirits which may be threatening a home's tranquility. The evil spirit is mesmerized by the ball's reflective beauty, and when the spirit touches the sphere, it is absorbed and trapped in the web-like strands of glass inside the ball. Because they are similar to the glass balls used by fishermen on nets, Witch Balls are also associated with many sea superstitions and legends. These hand blown art glass balls are made up of a beautiful mix of colors, and each one is unique and unlike any other in its combination of colors and patterns. The photos are just an illustration of one combination of the Amethyst ornament. These balls may vary a bit in size, with a diameter of 5 - 5-1/2 inches. They are available in other colors as well, please see our other listings to choose the one you like best. Hand blown in Canada.
