These are hand blown art glass, crafted by artisans in Canada.Witch Balls were very popular in 18th Centruy England, but their actual origin isthought to be much older. For well over 300 years, hollow glass spheres have beenhung in windows to ward off witch spells, evil spirits and ill fortune. Hanging thesedecorative balls in the window is thought to tantalize evil spirits which may bethreatening a home\'s tranquility. The evil spirit is mesmerized by the ball\'sreflective beauty, and when the spirit touches the sphere, it is absorbed andtrapped in the web-like strands of glass inside the ball.Because they are similar to the glass balls used by fishermen on nets, Witch Ballsare also associated with many sea superstitions and legends.These hand blown art glass balls are made up of a beautiful mix of colors, andeach one is unique and unlike any other in its combination of colors and patterns.The photos are just an illustration of one combination of the Amethyst ornament.
