Ulrica Hydman -Vallien is one of Sweden\'s most famous glass designers and her speciality is hand-painted glass.
First she develops a model - a job which involves many different steps. This is then hand-painred by skilled craftsmen in the studio, to give
each piece its own \'special character. The painter\'s signature is always shown after the artist\'s name. The piece is then fired at high temperature to melt the colour into the glass. \"I express myself in pictures. I want the glass to live for ever. Close to the hand, close to the heart\", says Ulrica.
All hand-made glass is fragile and easily scratched. Hand-painted glass should never be machine-washed. Treat it with care and it will be a
source of pleasure for years to come.Ulrica Hydman-Vallien was born in Stockholm. Sweden 1938. She has been a Kosta Boda designer since 1972.
