Krishna Enthroned, Indian Miniature painting , Eastern Rajasthan 18th century:
$358.00

One of three Ragamala paintings from the same set showing aspects of the Hindu trinity and the Great Goddess. Gouache opaque watercolor on paper board.
Eastern Rajasthan probably Bundelkhand or Orcha, Late 18th century.
A painting of Krishna enthroned being adorned by courtly ladies acting as Gopis. Fine detail work and goldwork to the throne and headress etc. The original borders were trimmed early on and remounted in the proper Rajasthani fashion of quartered in eighteenth century laid paper, possibly for a British collector. There are some paint losses and stains as seen, mostly due to a 20th century mounting. These have been rematted and hinged to museum standards 11x14 acid / lignin free museumragboard and washi paper.
Please note all these paintings I offer are 100% original and of the period. They are NOT \"vintage\" or 20th century repros as are increasingly flooding the market as \"originals\". We are very familiar with the highest quality reproductions being produced today, some being passed at top sale houses.
