Utagawa Kuniyosi (1798-1861) Ukiyo-e woodblock print on paper.Kuniyosi ga signateure visible on right lower portion.Produced in japan mid to late 1800\'s.Original print.paper size:37cm x 25cmAccording to letter on the left side, a lady is watching something on the ground liken as shells.Which are used for playing game by noble people in 10 to 11 century.Inside of these shells are beautifully decorated picture and poem as shown in left top.We can still see them Museum.
Kuniyosi is known as painter of Warrior or Samurai but number of print are not so many as the other Ukiyo-e painter. However he made good job for paintings portrait of beauty or actors too. The Tempo Reforms of 1841-1843 Edo government controlling public displays of luxury and wealth, and the illustration of courtesans and ukiyo-e was banned at that time. So Kuniyosi and the other painter discontinued to make portrait. And especially he had big influence, so Kuniyosi\' s portrait are very rare in our market.This painting shows that in compare with very my difficult life, the moon is living easily and clean.
