Fabulous Extra Large Scenic Cameo of Excellent Quality
Gosh there is so much going on in this Cameo that I don\'t know where to start - I am not sure what the scene is - I thought maybe it was Dawn? Such a lot of work has gone into this cameo and it is very finely carved too. The detail is amazing and there is a good deal of relief too. I shall let the pictures do the talking. It measures just over 2 1/2\" (6.5cm) length x 2 1/4\" wide (5.5cm) x 3/4\" (2cm) high and weighs a hefty 33g.The frame is a substantial solid 9ct gold one and has a safety chain. Condition is absolutely superb - there are just three approx 5mm natural stress lines in the top left hand corner and these are ONLY visiable when held up to the light - they are NOT visiable on the front or the rear.
In my considered opinion it dates to circa 1890 and is most likely Italian in origin - bought on a Grande Tour.
