You are offerding on a copper pitcher from my dads antique collection. The copper haystack measure, whose shape resembles that of a haystack crossed with a pitcher, has become a collector’s item. They were first made in England during the mid – late 18th century, for measuring ale and other spirits in pubs. They range in size from ½ pint to 3 or more gallons. The size was stamped on the front or side of the pitcher ( 2 Quarts) Periodically, a local official would visit each establishment and check to see if measure was correct. He would then plant a lead seal somewhere around the rim with the date, his inspector’s number, and a crown with the initials of the current king or queen. This seal reads E.R. 43 which I assume was in 1843. The Pitcher is in good shape for its age. Has a few dings and some solder repair as shown. Measures approximately 8 1/2\" -9\" tall, 6 3/4\" base. The dovetail seam shows nicely under the handle. Stamped \"2 Quarts\".Weight is approximately 2 lbs.
