LARGE ANTIQUE NORWEGIAN FOLK ART ACANTHUS CARVED FIRESIDE BELLOWS c1850
A superbly carved example of Norwegian folk art. A set of fireside bellows unusually carved on both sides. The front is carved with traditional acanthus leaf scroll work in beautiful detail, the back carved with larger acanthus leaves surrounding a central heart shape. Sadly the leather bellows have rotted away and only small remnants of leather remain so they can only be used for decorative purposes butthe craftsmanship in the carving isso superior, the panels are a work of art in their own right. The brass spout is original, the panels are in good condition with a rich, original patina to the wood.The bellows date to circa 1850 or earlier and measure 25 inches long. Due to the length this item will have to shipped overseas by courier.
