MEIJI PERIOD MAKI-E LACQUER CENTRE PIECE - JAPAN

Description:
Gorgeous Japanese maki-e lacquer decoration on a faux ivory plateo or centre piece. The gilt and raised decoration comprises a pleasant group of three birds (crane, falcon and sparrow) depicted in flight in the centre of the well. The rim also sports a decoration along its perimeter, of what seem to be abstract representations of bats. Excellent piece, signed on the back.

29cm (diameter) x 4.8cm (height)
Weight: 229gr

Condition:
Very solid condition, with a small chip at the back of the rim, and some logical signs of use. The rim shows a slight warping, but it is to be expected in many pieces made with this type of material. Its overall condition, which is better explained by the pictures, is excellent. Please, see the attached pictures for a better illustration of its condition, and do not hesitate to ask me for more pictures if you should need them.
