Vintage ABSTRACT SCULPTURAL BRUTALIST PAINTING / CONSTRUCTION Mid Century Modern Signed
Massive wall construction with three dimensional floating effect, in Brutalist style. Striped and layered with aggressively painted and worked canvas strips. Constructed of heavy, archival museum board, wrapped and painted. Skillfully balancing two disparate modeled pieces. Painting/construction protrudes out from wall at center connection, approximately 4.5". Reminiscent of the early Minimalist work of Frank Stella.
Mixed media painting on board. Original mount connections on back are 2 x 2 wooden beams and a heavy gauge hanging wire.Signed on original handwritten label - Herman Design 212 Logan Court, Philadelphia, PA 19003. Artist is Jonathan Herman - highly regarded Philadelphia artist and designer. Made in the late 1970's. Excellent condition with outstanding surface variation. Work is made to look scarred and gouged, specifically reacting to the Minimalist esthetic of purity of form. Please examine all photos and feel free to ask questions.Large scale - Measures 48.5" x 35". Very substantial work, weighs approximately 20 pounds.
