Large Wood Folk-art Frame Of 197 Points From Illinois Museum Closing For Sale
VERY LARGE FOLK-ART WOOD FRAME OF 197 ARROWHEADS FROM ILLINOIS MUSEUM CLOSING
GOT A NUMBER OF ARTIFACTS, MOSTLY POTTERY, POINTS, AXES AND CELTS, FROM THE DISPLAYS AT THE OLD BARN MUSEUM IN NEWARK, ILLINOIS. THIS PRIVATE MUSEUM WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1972 BY THE LATE HOWARD CHRISTENSEN (WHO'S WHO NO. 7) AND IT WAS OPEN TO VISITORS FOR THE LAST TIME ON SUNDAY OCTOBER 28, 2012. MANY DISPLAY ITEMS WILL BE DONATED TO OTHER HISTORICAL MUSEUMS IN THE AREA, AND SOME WILL BE SOLD. THIS LARGE 25" BY 30" WOOD FRAME IS ONE OF SEVERAL PUT TOGETHER BY MR. CHRISTENSEN FOR DISPLAY IN HIS MUSEUM. IT REALLY FALLS MORE INTO THE CATEGORY OF FOLK ART RATHER THAN ARTIFACTS, WITH 197 POINTS BEAUTIFULLY ARRANGED IN AN EAGLE PATTERN. THIS FRAME CAN BE VIEWED ON THE OLD BARN WEBSITE BY GOING TO THEMATIC MUSEUM-MENU-DISPLAY BOARDS-B-035 EAGLE BOARD. A LABEL ON THE BACK OF THE FRAME INDICATES THAT SOME OF THE POINTS ON THE BOARD CAME FROM WYANDOTE CAVE IN INDIANA BUT WHETHER THIS IS VALID OR NOT I CAN'T SAY. THERE IS NO OTHER INFORMATION AS TO THE ORIGIN OF THE POINTS. BECAUSE THERE IS NO GLASS IN THIS FRAME SHIPPING WILL BE FAR LESS OF A PROBLEM THAN THE LAST ONE I HAD. STILL IF ARRANGEMENTS COULD BE MADE TO PICK IT UP IT MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA. THE MAJORITY OF THE OTHER SIMILAR MUSEUM FRAMES ARE NOW ON DISPLAY AT THREE OTHER HISTORICAL MUSEUMS IN NORTHERN ILLINOIS.
NOTE: BECAUSE OF THE SIZE, WEIGHT, AND FRAGILE NATURE OF THIS FRAME I CONTACTED A SHIPPING COMPANY FOR A PRICE AND THEY QUOTED 145.00 FOR ANYWHERE IN THE CONTINENTAL U.S. FOREIGN SHIPPING WOULD BE MUCH HIGHER. IT WOULD BE GREAT IF THE FRAME'S BUYER COULD ARRANGE FOR A PICK-UP. COMES WITH A CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN.
NOTE: PER SEVERAL REQUESTS, I HAVE STARTED TO INCLUDE A CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN FOR EACH ARTIFACT FROM THE OLD BARN MUSEUM, EACH PERSONALLY SIGNED BY DR. JUDIE CHRISTENSEN, THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR.
