When this album wasreleased in November 1969, it marked – literally - the beginning of the new eraand the new sound: Heavy Metal. And, while Heavy Metal existed as a genre evenbefore Led Zeppelin II (Blue Cheer, Vanilla Fudge, Steppenwolf) it was heavily beholdento psychedelia and bore a heavy burden of debt to the previous era’s exaggerations and idiosyncracies.

Not so with LedZeppelin II. From the opening blast of ‘Whola Lotta Love’ to the final fade of‘Bring it on Home’, the listener knows that he is not in Kansas anymore. Thisis a whole new, uncharted territory. In fact, the album makes a clean breakeven with the band`s first album: on their first album, one can easily hearremnants of British psychedelia (Black Mountain Top), progressive rock (Your time is gonna come) urban electric blues (You shook me; How manymore times; I can`t quit you), folkmusic (Babe, I’m gonna leave you) and other styles the band members were intoat a time. However, you won’t find such excursions on Led Zeppelin II: the album is a monolithic slab of primometal: an all-out, in-your-face assault from start to finish. Even the balladsexude the spirit of burning Metal.

(a)WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++.A few light abrasions ARE VISIBLE, butthey appear fairly insignificantrelative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderatelyvisually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without anyMAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, andthe vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(c)The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, whichwas usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound onsuch thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do notexpect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior,digital recording!!!

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws orimperfections are noted on the cover:

-Cover has some writing on its back side (initials of theprevious owner written in blue marker, about 1 x 1 inch in size)

-Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On thescale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-The cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections,which closely follow the contour of the record), probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other coversduring the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear,but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with aminor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparentlyfrom aging (nothing significant).

-Visible shelf wear noted on the seams, notably on the spine

-Cover has two corners slightly worn (nothing significant)
