Description:
Offered for sale an ORIGINAL Vintage poster published by AIR FRANCE promoting travel to the carrier\'s world wide destinations as they existed in the1950\'s. The artist Lucien Boucher created this illustrated cartographic World Map, also known as \"planisphère\" (a flattened representation of the globe).

At the time AIR FRANCE had one of the largest networks spanning the earth. Notice the destinations in Africa and South East Asia where France still was a colonial power. The map contains many cartographic symbols. Placed within and around the planisphere are illustrations depicting colonialists and indigenous people, landmarks, botanical designs, exotic animals and various cartographic symbols- an abundance of cultural and historical information executed with attention to detail!

Banner in lower central position reads: \"Sur les ailes d\'Air France découvrez le Monde a votre Tour\" (Translation: \"Your turn to discover the World on the wings of Air France\").

This poster is a silkscreen print with addition of metallic gold highlights (that do not show well on computer monitors).This poster is conservation backed on acid-free paper and canvas and ready for framing.

Artist:Lucien Boucher (1889-1971)
Born in Chartres, France, he graduated from the Ecole de céramiques de Sèvres, and began his career as cartoonist for the satiric newspaper Le Rire. In the 1920s he worked actively as poster designer for the movies and the advertising industry. He designed a significant number of lithographies inspired by the surrealism style. Known mainly for a series of absorbing, detailed Air France poster designs. He is often referred to as \"Monsieur Planisphere\" (planispheres are flattened representation of planet earth) because of the many illustrated World Maps he created that depicted the global flight routes serviced by the airline. Lucien Boucher also created wood engravings and drawings in water color.

This poster is conservation backed on acid-free paper and canvas and ready for framing.
In good condition! Restoration over the area that shows the European continent, noticeable by close inspection, the giveaway is the detail in European air paths (red lines).
The rest of poster is mint. No edge wear, no tears, no foxing, no discoloring, complete margins. Clean paper and vivid colors!
