This Schooner La Gaspésienne Model was specially designed & built by the plank on bulkhead method (joining multiple small pieces of wood like Rosewood, Mahogany, Teak together on the hull). The sailboat model is built exactly to scale as the original La Gaspésienne Canadian fishing boat was with many details. The task required skillful craftsmen hundreds of hours to accomplish.
The La Gaspésienne was launched at the Canadian Davie Shipyard which was built in the beginning of the 19th century. The last of the Davie brothers died in 1951, and Paul Gourdeau, the company’s accountant, took over the business. He began building wooden fishing boats of a type called the “Gaspésienne,” producing over 125 of them.
