Beautiful Refinished Antique Waterfall Style Monitor Top Trunk With Two Working Locks and Key

Here we are offering you a unique style fancy refinished monitor top steamer trunk from around 1900. Here are the measurements: fromleft to right across the front is 33 inches, from floor to top is 23 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 inches. We have taken eleven pictures above for you to see. These trunks are called monitor tops because of a ship from the late 1800\'s that was called the U.S.S. Monitor. The main characteristic which is unique on this trunk is the rounded waterfall shape on the top front and rear edge. It has that Deco waterfall style which was noticeable also back in the 1930\'s onbedroom furniture sets. It is really pretty fascinating how the trunk maker bent the outer slat boards over the rounded edge and they have held up without splitting for all these years. We have removed some of the metal from this trunk to expose the wood underneath. This trunk appears to be made up of pine base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats ofpolyurethane by Minwax. There are some older distress marks in the wood which is common on all of the trunks that we refinish. There are some small gaps where the wood has been joined together. These monitor tops are not nearly as common as the flat top and dome top trunks. We usually only get maybe one of these out of about 60 or 70 trunks. A really nice feature on this trunk is the pair of original working locks. We have matched up a key that does work in each lock. The metal partsmaking up this trunk are not brass and have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. This trunk has a lot of fancy hardware on it. Theside handles weremissing and have been replaced with nice sturdy Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the interior, we have finished the interior wood with two coats ofpolyurethane and we have added a trunk maker\'s style picture to each side under the top. Going outside ofthis beautiful monitor top to the exterior bottom, it has normal wear and we have finished the bottom to make this trunk overall cleaner. This trunks would make a great gift on any special occasion, maybe on a birthday, wedding, or holiday. If you are a collector of dolls, teddy bears, coins, Civil War items, nautical items, or family memorabilia, then this would be a great trunk to keep all of these great things within. This trunk would look absolutely gorgeous siting at the foot of the bed tostore clothing, blankets, and others itemswithin. Truthfully, it would look very nice anywhere in yourhome wherestorage space is needed. If you want something up andbeyond the flat tops and dome tops, this one is definitely the one for you.
