Beautiful Refinished Antique Trunk

Here we are offering you a nice refinished flat top steamer trunk from around the late 1800\'s to 1900. We are calling it a flat top trunk although it does have a slight factory arch to the top noticeable in the side view picture. Here are the measurements: fromleft to right across the front is 30 1/4 inches, from floor to top is 21 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 17 1/2 inches. We havetaken eleven pictures above for you to see. The trunk is made up of pine basewood with ash or oak outer slat boards. Thereare some typical older character marks or distress marks on the wood. Most of these marks are nicks and dings concentrated on to the outer slat boards. For example, on the top front slat board, there is a groove cut into the board. Somebody probably used a saw many years ago to cut wood on top of this trunk and accidentally went into the trunk slat board. It simply gives the trunk character and is part of the trunk\'s overall antiquity. We have finished the wood on this trunk with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to preserve it. The upperpart of the lock is original to this trunk. It is not in working condition since some of the internals have been removed. You cannot make it lock since the engagement prong is missing. There is a small patent date stamped onto the lock metal. It reads, \"Pat\'d April 18 1870\". You can read the date with a magnifying glass as it is pretty small. The lower part ofthis lock is a replacement piece from a parts trunk that we have installed. The front two latches are original and do work well since the springs are still intact. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. The handles are sturdy. The metal parts on this trunk are not brass. It they were, we would have semi polished them. Since they aren\'t, we have brush painted the metal in black and gold leaf. Going to the interior, we have removed the old worn out paperlining and finished the wood with two coats of polyurethane. We have added two trunk maker\'s style pictures to the underside of the top. There are some typical stress cracks running acrossthe bottom boards in this trunk. This trunk would be a beautiful gift that should last a lifetime for a loved one on any special occasion like a birthday, anniversary, Christmas, or any holiday. These trunks can be utilized within the modern home as a coffee table, end table, tv/stereo stand, and most often they are placedsomewhere in the bedroom like at the foot of the bed to store blankets, clothing, and other items within. Collectors of Civil War items, dolls, teddy bears, coins, nautical/maritime items, and other things; these people have bought trunks from us in the past to keep their cherished collection of items inside.
