Lafayette original very large Studio \'specimen\' PHOTOGRAPH from the1930\'s - Miss J P Morgan in RAF uniform. Actual photo measurement, not including any mount or margin is 12.75\" high x 8.75\" wide appx.Hand signedLAFAYETTE in pencil in the margin, and bears hand written name as above, \' specimen \' and a Lafayette reference numberto the reverse. Condition is excellent.

This is onelarge photograph from what we believeis a unique and outstandingcollection of some 350 + portrait photographs, mainly from the 1920\'s -1930\'s, that we believeis of great historical importance. They are all being listed by us on over the next few weeks. The photographswere discovered, stored in their original wooden Lafayette studio wooden crates, and are believed to be the actual studio copies held by The Lafayette studios as a record of their work. The fact that they havebeen carefully stored for many years, and not displayed, has resulted in the photographs being presented today in outstanding condition. We have other material relating to Lafayette also, all from the original studio, all will be offered for sale shortly.

Very little decent material from the Lafayette studio is available for sale in the market, simply because much of the studio archive is held by the V&A Museum, and the National Portrait Gallery, in London, together with various other institutions around the world.Ours is believed to be the largest section of the Lafayette archive material to exist in private hands. Two photographs very similar to the ones we are offering were sold at sale last year by Webbs of Wilton, one for £1500, the other for £500 (bothplus 24% premium), depicting the Crown Prince of Arabia, one being hand coloured, a practice that Lafayette carried out using professional artists, with astonishing accuracy and attention to detail.
