PRICE REDUCED!This is a rare hammered round plate or tray made by renowned aluminum artist, Arthur Armour. The company produced handmade aluminum products and featured various themes from life in the west togarden florals. The Zodiac plate is rare due to its size and subject. This mid-modern piece is in sound condition and would make a wonderful decorative wall accent or used for serving guests. It features a circular border highlighting each of the twelve zodiac signs and titles, embossed in a stone plinth, radiating out from the recessed center. The tray is marked on the back with the artist’s signature.

The tray is marked on the back with the artist’s signature initials. Arthur Armour (1908-1998) was one of the masters of the Aluminum Era. A Carnegie Tech graduate, he used his architecture degree for several years before moving on to the Wendell August Forge to design patterns. In the 1930’s, he opened his own forge, which operated for 40+ years, only closing during WWII when the need for aluminum for wartime efforts lessened his supply. As a result, he began producing gold anodized pieces following the war when he re-opened his forge for business.
