Large 25\" Baga Guinea, West Africa A-Tshol Anok Bird Headdress Helmet Mask Statue

Carved wood with dark patina.

16.5\" high x 25.75\" wide overall including circular post plinth base stand (mask helmet head itself is 7.5\" high and 3.75\" deep, base itself is 10.25\" high with a 4.25\" base diameter and a 1\" top diameter).

Provenance:

Discovered in Africa then transported back to Nevada, USA by safari photographer Jeanne Drake; Drake estate sale, Nevada; Nevada collector.

Condition:

As discovered in Africa then transported back to Nevada, USA and sold in safari photographer Jeanne Drake\'s estate sale condition. Surface wear everywhere. Some type of dark brown repair, touch-up or fill to one side of head below hair line to skull behind eye visible in first and second images. Wood of head main piece quite sturdy and structurally sound with some generally small scattered modern era (not yet having acquired patina) chips to several areas. Base is heavily worn, has base chipping and wear to edges, has splitting to large diameter section and a long spiral split to upper post section.
