This mask was created from a large animal or whale bone. Hand tool markingsare visable both on the front and back. Research I have done is not diffinitive regarding the origin of this mask. Very interesting code resembling what a museum ora collector of fine masks would have used. The code on the back of the maskis DM-63-82-A-AF. The mask appears to have had a protectant applied. The mask is approx. 7.5 inches tall and 6 inches wide. Also visiable on the back is some green markings whichare not readable. This piece shows age, plus a square nail was cut off on the left side in the back just below the eye hook and wire. This is an Estate find from a home that had numerous fine antiques.
