Large Engraving of Louis XV Era Cherubs & Attacking Lion. Huge Print mid-1700s:
$138.89
This sale is for an extremely large engraving from France of the 1700s, and shows a scene of two children as classical mythological cherubs, being attacked by a lion. It is probably a wood-cut (though may be a steel plate engraving?) and is quite large for its type. Super detail, and obviously the product of a skilled artist!
A great allegorical scene preceding the eventual French Revolution, this image probably dates from the 1740s or so. It is quite a large print -- it is mounted on a paper background, but the original image itself measures 20 x 22 cm. The engraving is done on heavy (acid-free) rag paper, with a black back. The image itself is captioned \"La Raison.\" (and a more modern hand has written in pencil that it might be done by \"Le Testifer.\") Regardless, this is a super rare and very large engraving from Pre-Revolutionary France, and a fantastic piece of 18th century art!
