This is an antique Seth Thomas weight driven clock with carved and painted front columns. These columns were hand painted yellow and gold with intentional brush lines (particularly with the yellow). This clock does not work properly in its current condition. When I wind the clock and swing the pendulum, it will run a minute so, but strangely, the hands move in reverse. Not sure why. It appears (I am not an expert) to have most of the parts, but they may just need repaired and put back together.
The original hands are still intact as well as the brass pendulum and will swing for a minute.The main front wood section is veneered and in good condition, with the exception of a few small chipped areas.
The original glass is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. The bottom half is papered with birds and floral pattern.
Comes with metal key that fits and winds the clock.
Comes with 2 cast iron wieghts. They are removed from what little bit of string was left.
There is an extra small brass washer, not sure what it is for.
The original Seth Thomas paper on the inside, back wall is partially missing and what remains is brittle and delicate.
The clock face is in good condition with painted floral corner designs.
I am not sure of the exact age, but I feel confident that is of the Civil War era or earlier. I could be wrong.
