Item description:

Protective divinity, hunter, Nkisi (or Nkishi) of the \"aggressive\" type.

THIS IS AN AUTHENTIC OLD NKONDE (HUNTER) CARVED WOOD FETISH ANTIQUE, c. late 1800\'s to 1930 (unless modern replicas), featuring the following characteristics:

  • It has a cap (looks like animal skin/tissue) but might be textile?)firmly attached to the top and rear of the head (SEE PICTURE 10);
  • The eyes, of deep gaze, are mirror-like and appear to follow you, regardless of where you move (SE PICTURES 8, 9);
  • This Nkonde is bearded (a tufted beard). The beard material has the appearance of fur (SEE PICTURE 7);
  • The nails are made of wood;
  • Its attire (skirt) is of a vegetable, raffia-like fiber (SEE PICTURES 3, 4 11);
  • There is a mirror-like, reflective surface in the abdominal area, which could be the cover of a secret compartment (obviously I will not attempt to open it) (SEE PICTURE 12);
  • The area from the chest down to the waist is covered with sachets, possibly filled with powders and / or \"medicinal\" substances (I cannot determine what exactly they are), and seeds/seed halves as ornaments (SEE PICTURES 1, 2, 7, 12);
  • A good part of the NKonde looks smeared with mud that is firmly adhered to the body;
  • It is 22.5 \"tall (57-58cm);
