We are pleased to offer this beautiful Late Victorian Art Nouveau cameo depicting Bacchante (Maenad). She was finely carved as a beautiful lady wearing a wreath of ivies, and an animal skin rope. She is very pretty with a very sweet facial expression, but I also feel her a little bit cool and calm. Hairs flow down on her shoulder that shows her gentle side. Great details shown on her face, hair, and her robe.

The cameo was carved from natural Sardonyx shell that provides great marble effects to this cameo. The carving lines are smooth, fluent, and neat. The bezel is 14K solid yellow gold bezel frame that can be worn as both brooch and necklace pendant. The frame has a beautiful late Victorian Art Nouveau filigree design. Gold-line scrolls form butterfly shapes that decorate each of the top and bottom edge, adding interesting details to the frame. The brooch pendant has its original hand-made safety catch, and a ball hinged pin. A hallmark \"14K\" stamped on the catch. A folded down bail is used as a pendant. When put the bail up, it looks like a butterfly\'s head between wings. Circa 1890s-1900s.

The size is large, just about 2 \" in length (1 15/16\" when the little \"butterfly head\"-the bail is folded down), and 1 1/2\" wide. Condition is great. Several natural shell hairlines appear inside the shell but do not go through to either of the front or back surface. A possible tiny chip appears on the left bottom of the back surface, but only at the surface layer. It should be a tool mark. Mentioned for accuracy.
