Pretty luster finished pedestal cup and saucer set from Lefton China has so many beautiful details. The white areas are painted with colorful iridescent luster. The sage green areas have a pearly luster finish. There is lots of gilt. A band of floral gilt geometrics runs around the inside rim of the cup, with spatter gilt around the outside. There are small gilt transfers of flowers in all the white spaces. The outside of the cup has garlands of hand painted roses and other blossoms all the way around, as does the saucer. The flowers are painted in shades of lavender, plum, blue, green, pale yellow and white with multi hues of green leaves. The inside of the cup has a bit of build-up and could stand a cleaning. The saucer has a generous amount of gilt applied. The pedestal base of the cup is embossed with a feather-like design that reminds me of a peacock\'s plumage. That same embossing is seen around the outer edge of the saucer. The cup is finished off with a rococo styled handle.
This is a very pretty display piece and could be an asset to your collection. Lefton China\'s offices and distribution center was in Chicago, Illinois, manufacture was done in Japan until 1975. The factory mark on the bottom of this set dates its manufacture to 1949 - 1955.
