This is an EXTRAORDINARY book and slipcase. They are both like new with no apparent flaws. Only serious collectors should offer on this item as I want it to rest in a suitable collection. Published in 1932, this is copy # 1249. Frederic Warde designed the edition and arranged for the proper printing of the original Sir John Tenniel illustrations. Warde sent a series of fine prints of the original electrotypes to Bruno Rollitz of Berlin, a famous wood-cutter. Rollitz proceeded to cut all of Tenniel\'s illustrations into new wood blocks from which this edition was printed. This edition was designed by Frederic Warde (Who signs in the back of the volume.) The printing was undertaken at The Printing House of William Edwin Rudge in Mount Vernon, New York. The type is Caslon, printed on paper especially made by The Hurlbut Paper Company of South Lee, Massachusetts. Mr. Werde personally supervised the mixture and machining of the paper. The binding is full levant morocco, stained a deep wine color, with an intricate pattern stamped in genuine gold all over the covers, and all edges of the book are also finished in genuine gold. Kindly note that this edition also was signed, in the front of the book, by Alice Hargreaves, the original Alice for whom the book was conjectured by Carroll! She did not sign all of these books, but this is one that is signed. Ms. Hargreaves sailed to the Limited Editions Club from England, at an advanced age, to sign these editions, and had always refused to sign copies before. The book has other attributes, too numerous to mention. Note that I also include the rare Monthly Letter, the pre-publication notice to LEC subscribers, and a newspaper clipping included by the publisher to those members receiving the copies signed by Ms. Hargreaves. This newspaper clipping is therefore not a later insertion by a previous owner. I will mail the volume insured for free.
