Reasonable opening offer and .

For sale is the 2333 Santa Fe AA F-3 diesel AA pair from 1949. This is a \"matched\" pair of AA units. I\'m sure they\'ve been a pair ever sine they left the Lionel factory. These have: (1) the red and white GM decals on the rear of the shell bodies above the \"Built by Lionel\"; (2) the black \"Santa Fe\" on the sides is rubber-stamped; (3) the conical \"bug-eye\" porthole lenses (all original here); (4) the blackened finger-screw for the horn cover shield on the bottom; (5) the early horizontal motors; and (6) the nickel-plated coupler shield in front. All the wiring is original. Each body shell has the mysterious \"X\" etched on the rear of the underside. These include the original boxes plus the inserts/liners, the master carton, and original \"padded\" paper. All the wiring, decals, etc. is original. Of interest is horn on the power unit. It is the modified transitional mounted horn seen in the later issue 2343s. It still retains the two original screw holes on the very rear of the frame to attach the early run of these 2333 horns.

The 2333 pair for sale here has been track- and bench-tested, and they have been lubed and oiled. At the time of servicing (about one week ago), it was found that: (1) the head lamps work on both; (2) the power A unit consistently cycles through forward-neutral-reverse; (3) the horn in thepower A works well; and (4) the electronic couplers on the both units operate properly. These are the classic \"growler\" horizontal worm-drive motors, and there are two of these motors in the powered A unit. This runs very smoothly up and down the track. The wide contact rollers on these 2333s reveal little track time.

The battery compartment \"inside\" of the power A unit is corrosion-free. Both units are fully corrosion free and rust free. The silver paint is very nice, and still has a little bit of dull luster to it. The silver paint on the under belly of the frames so very nice as well, with only a little handling-wear in evidence. The red paint is really nice. Beside the front roof ventilator on both units there is what appears to be a little stress-fracture about 3/4 inches in length. Close inspection of the shell bodies from the underside reveal that these little stress fractures do not go all the way through. These perhaps were a little mold defect, or cuts of some kind; who knows? Otherwise, there are no chips or cracks in either body shell, and the screw mounts are intact. I would rate this AA pair to be in the excellent-minus range. But in the final analysis, please consider the photographs to be an integral part of the description, be your final guide in evaluating the condition of these AA units.

The master carton is a brick with all its flaps and no holes, no non-factory tape, and no tears. One end remains factory-sealed. The open \"label\" end reveals a little fraying, but there are no tears along the fold-creases. The label has some fraying and skinning.

The box for the power A unit (2343P \"X\" lettering) is also a brick with one end factory-sealed. There are no tears, but there are about four small punctures about 1/4 inch in diameter on one side. There is some small writing on one side: \"Engine Santa Fe Ned\". There is some fraying of the flaps on the open end, and some tape residue. It has the \"X\" stamped on the ends which I have been told indicates it came in a master carton. The insert for this \"P\" box is nice, but with one of the \"hold-in\" tabs missing on one end.

The box for the dummy \"trailer\" A unit (2343T lettering) has no holes and no writing, but there is see-trough tape on both ends. One end is taped closed. The open end has all its flaps but has the see-through tape on both the inside and outside to add support and/or reattach flaps. It is a very presentable box despite the tape, and has good color. The insert for this \"T\" box is in excellent shape, with both its \"hold-in\" tabs intact.

This AA pair and boxes will be professionally packaged. Each unit will be wrapped in acid-free museum quality tissue, and then the original Lionel padded paper. Buyer to pay shipping charges specified above for USPS Standard Post shipping; this includes insurance and tracking. I ship only to the 50 United States. PayPal only.
